Every Dream Has A Price--and for Doctor Mary Ferguson, that price is high.
It's 1908 on the western prairie, and Mary has attained her dream. She's one of the first women doctors, and she's struggling hard for acceptance. The choices are clear cut--pursue her hard earned career, or fall in love and follow her heart. At this time and in this place, women can't have both.
But when she meets David, a man trying to find balance between his Indian mother and his white father, she longs for more.
David is returning to his people on the western prairies.
He doesn't fully understand how the way of life he remembers from when he was a child has changed.
Government policies have forced his Blackfoot people onto reserves, and there are troubling laws being enforced.
He thinks longingly of Mary, but he's sure their lives are too disparate to ever come together.
This is the third stand alone book in the Western Prairie Brides Series, which began with Lantern In The Window.
Mary's mother Annie was a mail order bride. She married Noah sight unseen. LANTERN IN THE WINDOW tells their love story. Mary is their oldest child.
Annie's sister Bets is deaf. Her romance with a handsome and conflicted North West Mounted policeman is told in SILENT LIGHT, SILENT LOVE.
INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR
Why did you write this particular book?
My mother grew up on the Canadian prairies. I asked her once if there were any women doctors, and she shook her head. "Oh no, no one would have trusted a woman doctor in those days. Women got married, raised a family, cooked, cleaned." When I researched the early 1900's, I came across a horrifying government decree dealing with the native tribes. So what could I do but put these two situations together?
Who's your favorite character in Medicine Woman?
That would be Magpie, the impossible little boy who trails around after David in the Blackfoot village. I fell in love with him because he refused to be a small sub character in the story. He demanded that he have an important role, the scamp!
I tried to incorporate romance, history, tragedy and laughter in this historical medical romance. Join me on Facebook and let me know if I succeeded!

Medicine Woman Western Prairie Brides edition by Bobby Hutchinson Romance eBooks
I enjoyed this story of a woman doctor, struggling to practice her craft in Canadian pioneer days. Ms. Hutchinson has a gift for writing appealing stories, no matter the setting. She writes competently, in an engaging fashion, using humor and sorrow. Her characters are believable and very relatable. They have strengths and weak spots that make them more interesting. Her stories seem to be historically accurate as well. I did think this story ended a little too soon. It's not a cliff hanger, but it definitely needs a sequel to let us know how things will work out. I hope there is a sequel to continue the adventures.Product details

Medicine Woman Western Prairie Brides edition by Bobby Hutchinson Romance eBooks Reviews
Good fast read.
I enjoy reading western novels with strong female roles. It was a light hearted love story. I really liked the historical background.
I very much enjoyed this book, just wish it was longer!! I've loved all of Bobby Hutchinson's book that I've read but I'm never ready for them to end!
I have loved every Bobby Hutchinson took I've read so far and I will look forward to more from her.
This book is a nice continuation of the series. I was disappointed this family has lost their Christian faith but they still act with Christian compassion. The book would be better I believe if church and God were a positive part of the story. Still the story was good and characters well developed.
I retired 2 years ago from not just the medical profession but teaching medical sciences as well, you just don't think of women in medicine back then. I know it's a love story which is very well written but I must say I enjoyed this on two different levels
Bobby does it again! This series is about strong women living in an era when women didn't have a lot of credibility. Bobby Hutchinson captures the frustration at being dismissed and ignored, and blatantly treated with unkindness. But this series is so enjoyable because we we know how the women struggle and refuse to be beaten down. In the story, a women doctor in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. The series continue with the family from the first book of the series "A Light in the Window." and we see some of old familiar characters from the series. The book is a fairly short read but packed with emotion, pathos, and romance. If you haven't read the other books in the series, I'd suggest you read them first to fully enjoy how they are seen from story to story. I'm not saying you have to read them in order, but I believe doing so will enhance your enjoyment of the story. Thanks Bobby for another great Prairie Brides ebook!
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for a review.
